The Gewürztraminer 2006 comes from two vineyard sites: The Reed vineyard in the upper Wairau Valley and the Traminer-View vineyard in the lower Wairau Valley. The two vineyards supply Huia with a combination of six Gewürztraminer cultivars.
These were all hand picked, then crushed and de-stemmed, before undergoing a combination of indigenous and inoculated yeast fermentation, giving the components more complexity. A third of the wine was fermented in old French oak, bringing in an extra layer of richness and creaminess. The rest was fermented in stainless steel.
On the nose this wine seduces with its rose petals and Turkish delight aromas. Followed by warm spices, ripe pear and tropical fruit. The palate is rich in flavours: you will find vanilla bean, orange and spices. Very nicely layered, complex and long. This is a beautiful example of dry Gewürztraminer.
Huia Gewürztraminer is delicious with: terrines and patés, Thai food, mild curries, smoked seafood and meats, soy honey duck, blue cheeses and aged cheddar.
