The 2004 Chardonnay is sourced from the Huia Rapaura and Reed west coast road vineyards. The major portion is Dijon 95. A long, cool but sunny growing season produced a great concentration of flavours and a lively acidity. The grapes were all hand picked, de-stemmed and crushed. A long indigenous yeast fermentation, partial malolactic ferment and 10 months maturation in French oak have contributed to create a sophisticated, elegant and finely structured Chardonnay.
The aromatic nose displays white peach, pear and exotic vanilla. The palate is creamy and intense, layered with ripe fruit and well integrated oak flavours. The finish is long and powerful.
Huia Chardonnay is delicious with: smoked fish, char- grilled salmon, lobster/crayfish, roasted or baked chicken, pasta in cream sauce, matured Brie and other soft cheeses.
