The Gewürztraminer 2005 comes from two vineyard sites: The Reed vineyard in the upper Wairau Valley and the Traminer-View vineyard in the lower Wairau Valley. The two vineyards supply Huia with a combination of six Gewürztraminer cultivars.
They were all hand picked, then crushed and de-stemmed, before undergoing a combination of indigenous and inoculated yeast fermentation, giving it more complexity. Five percent of the wine was fermented in old French oak, bringing in an extra layer of richness and creaminess. The rest fermented in stainless steel.
On the nose spices and dried rose petals first tickle your senses. Followed by ripe tropical fruit, ginger and nutmeg. On the palate, the wine is dry and rich in flavours: vanilla bean, orange and spices. Complex and very long.
Huia Gewürztraminer is delicious with: terrines and patés, Thai food, mild curries, smoked seafood and meats, soy honey duck, blue cheeses and aged cheddar.
