2004 was a wonderful year for Riesling. The very long cool and sunny growing season gave us grapes close to perfection. They were sourced from two different vineyards: the Two Ponds vineyard in the Wairau Valley, that grows on a deep silt loam soil which brings balance and finesse to the wine, and the Rapaura Fairhall Vineyards from 24 year-old Riesling vines, that brings depth and length.
The grapes were harvested at optimum ripeness both by hand and machine. The hand picked portion was de-stemmed and crushed and the machine harvested ones were pressed directly. The wine went through a long cool ferment in stainless steel.
The nose shows good intensity and seduces with its ripe lemon and floral aromas. The palate is rich with citrus, mandarin and honeysuckle. It has a silky texture and a long vibrant mineral persistency.
This wine shows excellent aging potential.
Huia Riesling is delicious with: fresh oysters and scallops, sushi, whitebait fritters, Asian food, pasta with fresh tomato in a white wine sauce and firm fruity cheeses.
