The Gewurztraminer 2004 comes from two vineyard sites: The Reed vineyard in the upper Wairau Valley and the Traminer-View vineyard in the lower Wairau Valley. The two vineyards supply Huia with a combination of six Gewürztraminer cultivars.
They were all hand picked, then crushed, before undergoing a combination of indigenous and inoculated yeast fermentation, giving it more complexity. Five percent of the wine was fermented in 2 to 4 year-old French oak, bringing in an extra layer of richness.
On the nose, ripe peaches and spices scents abound. This is an aromatic full flavoured wine, showing ripe pineapple, lychee, ginger and nutmeg on the palate. The balance and depth of the palate supports a long velvety finish. Luscious.
Huia Gewurztraminer is delicious with: terrines and patés, Thai food, mild curries, smoked seafood and meats, soy honey duck, blue cheeses and aged cheddar.
