The 2002 Chardonnay is sourced from the Huia and Taylor river terrace vineyards. The major portion is Dijon 95, a relatively new cultivar to the region from Burgundy. A long dry vintage produced richly flavoured Chardonnay grapes. The grapes were all hand picked and whole bunch pressed. A long indigenous yeast fermentation and extended maturation in French oak have contributed to a complex, finely structured Chardonnay.
The aromatic nose displays white peach and exotic vanilla. The palate is creamy and intense, layered with ripe fruit and well integrated oak flavours. The finish is long and supple.
Huia Chardonnay is delicious with: smoked fish, char- grilled salmon, lobster/crayfish, roasted or baked chicken, pumpkin, spinach and feta pasta, matured Brie and other soft cheeses.
