2009 Huia Gewurztraminer

Background:
The 2009 Huia Gewürztraminer  was estate grown on
Huia’s Winsome Block on the seaward side of the Wairau
Valley. The soil is a mixture of orthic clay and black sand
ensuring a low vigour vineyard.

Winemaking:
Harvest commenced on the 27th March with the grapes in
very good condition. Rose water, Turkish Delight and lychee tropical fruit fill out
the palate along with some creamy lees notes.  Indigenous
wild yeast ferments were used to bring further complexity.
A portion was also fermented in older French barriques
with lees stirring to provide a softer textured element to the
wine.

Tasting Note:
The nose has fragrant rose petal notes and candied fruit.
The palate is full with generous lychee and Turkish Delight
characters with a long succulent finish. A rich savoury style
of Gewürztraminer showing  complex layers of flavours.

Food Matches:
Huia Gewürztraminer is delicious with: terrines and paté,
Thai food, mild curries, smoked seafood and meats, soy
honey duck, blue cheeses and aged cheddar.
