2008 Huia Gewurztaminer, Marlborough 94 Points 5 Stars Delicious gewurzt with a flavour profile and texture that suggests Alsace rather than Marlborough. Turkish delight and anise-spice flavours with a super-delicate and creamy texture. Great length without hardness or astringency

"Huia has a well-deserved reputation for making top Marlborough Gewurztraminer. Gentle, understated, with an ethereal texture and lingering finish. Classic rose/Turkish delight flavours. A charmer that shows subtlety with considerable power. Will age well."

Huia Gewurztraminer 2004 Team comment: An attractive nose with touches of musk, rose petal and spice. The palate is lush and concentrated with warm alcohol and long fleshy finish.

" VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED"
2003 Huia Gewurztraminer, Marlborough Lichee, spice and tropical fruit; softer and sweeter than many, but perfectly suited for hot spicy foods.

Huia Marlborough 2003 Gewurztraminer This is a consistently characterful wine. The excellent 2003 vintage(4 stars) was hand harvested at two Wairau Valley sites, fermented with indigenous yeasts and a small portion was briefly matured in seasoned French oak casks. Rich and soft, with a perfumed, musky bouquet, it shows very good ripeness, delicacy and concentration, with a slightly oily texture and strong drink-young appeal.

Huia 2002 Gewürztraminer - Aromas of under ripe pineapple, citrus skin and spices. Quite dry ... but avoids the harshness of so much gewürztraminer. In a restrained style, with an enticing sugar/acid balance and hints of yellow fruits. Lingering, very dry finish shows some power

Huia 2001 Gewürztraminer, Marlborough "Powerfully vivid with flavors of gingerbread, litchis, minerals, and peaches. Try it with a sassy version of barbequed chicken."

Huia 2002 Gewürztraminer, Marlborough - Dramatic aroma of lichee nuts, carnations and fresh pears, with a soft entry and an off-dry finish. Perfect for matching with Asian foods, like Thai, and for sipping on a hot afternoon.

2002 Huia Gewürztraminer - One of the classiest gewürztraminers on the market comes from Huia Vineyards, in Marlborough. Huia is one of the brightest stars in the New Zealand wine firmament, but they are only small and their wines have only been available in Canberra for a short time. Everything in their range is impressive, but the 2002 gewurz is simply stunning. It has the haunting floral fragrance of the top Alsace wines, along with a hint of minerals and a touch of lychees. The palate is rich and full, with scintillating varietal character and tremendous persistence of flavour. It might be hard to find, but the search will be well worth your while.

Huia 2002 Gewürztraminer - Nutty aromas. In the mouth it seems so sweet and rich, but it only has 3 gm residual sugar. It is the natural yeasts that give the sweetness says winemaker Claire Allen. Musky ripe lemon and stone fruit and plenty of spice. So rich it is almost over the top, while the nutty yeast flavors linger on the long rich finish. Needs time for the yeasty flavors to settle and integrate.

Huia Gewürztraminer 2001 Very nice wine:complex, balanced and quite strong. Very well fruited with very concentrated spice, quite tight on release but easing back steadily. Delicious. Certainly no hurry.

Huia Marlborough Gewürztraminer This is a consistantly characterful wine that rewards cellaring. Half fermented with indeginous yeasts the 2001 (4 stars) is fleshy, ripe and well rounded, with excellent mouth feel and depth of citrusy, spicy flavour and a dry finish.
The 2002 vintage (4 stars) was harvested at 23.5 Brix from 23 year-old vines in the Fell vineyard - one of the oldest in the Wairau Valley. It's a substantial (14 per cent alcohol) almost fully dry wine with ripe lychees and spice flavours and a rich, rounded finish.
