2007 Huia Sauvignon Blanc This small producer is one of my favorites. The nose of gooseberry and ripe citrus is intense; on the palate, there are bright grapefruit and passion fruit with a hint of lemon zest on the finish. How good is this wine? I suggest you buy several bottles at once .... and save yourself that unnecessary trip back to the wine store.

2007 Huia Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand
Huia's Sauvignon Blanc delivers more texture and mouthfeel than many of its neighbours. Bright pale straw colour with water like hue. The top note is that unmistakable duo of ripe and unripe gooseberry, followed by a hint of tropical fruit, light lees and a touch of confectionary. Generous mouthfilling flavours of ripe gooseberry, confectionary and yeast lees, giving a Graves like flavour profile. Clean finish. Aftertaste of ripe gooseberry, lemon & yeast lees.

Marlborough, New Zealand, produces graceful Sauvignon Blancs with pineapple-citrus flavors. Huia's 2006, with herbal notes in the mix, is good with garlicky Asian noodles.

HUIA Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2005

Huia Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2005 Some oak in maturation adding subtle touches to some sound and true sauvignon characters, clean and freshly alive. Low yields and strength of fruit, plus some barrel touches have completed this wine. Ready, no hurry into 2007.
In a word: Low yields, strong and quite intense fruit with some oak barrel touches- a fresh sauvignon opening up very well.

2004 Huia Sauvignon Blanc I am a fan of the aromatic grapes from Huia and yet I feel that if these guys loved Sauv a bit more this wine could be better. Zesty grapefruit and passion fruit joust with nettle nose and pert finish. There is 15 % wild ferment in here to jazz up the complexity. All in all a cracker, but I know it could be better.

Huia 2003 Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough
Concentrated, racy and intense, packed with everchanging notes of fruit that range from peach and melon to passion fruit, pineapple and grapefruit. The long, tangy finish reverbates across the palate long after the wine is gone. Editor's Choice- J.C.

Huia 2003 Sauvignon Blanc -An herbaceous nose on the full-bodied, ripe fruited style with lemon, gooseberry and juicy tropical fruit. It finishes dry and wild ferment yeasts add complexity. ( 18 Sept 2003)
Warm and rich, it has that juicy upfront flavor of Kiwano (horned melon) that I found in the wine last year. There's also tobacco, the smoke of cut grass on the rich palate, with good layers of citrus and gooseberry and a long herbaceous finish with a touch of pear. No oak, just natural yeast ferment. Huia 2002 Sauvignon Blanc - Fragrant, very appealing scents of freshly chopped raw asparagus, green jalapeņos and subtle tropical fruit. Moderately rich and unctuous on the palate, this superbly crafted wine delivers lively flavors of greengage plum, tropical fruit and mild herbs. A slight departure from the typically lean Marlborough style, but eminently delicious.
